Getting Isolation Ready. (TNC Viewer)

Technical Difficulty: Medium
Time to set up: 30 minutes - 1 hour

Last Updated: 19th of May, 2020 / 5:45pm

This installation guide will allow you to remotely access a computer at your pharmacy from any other computer including your home computer. This guide is intended to enable you to continue to run your business in the case of further restrictions as a result of a second-round Covid-19 outbreak. We recommend installing the program on the computer you most commonly use for dispensing. Advantages of TNCViewer over TeamViewer is that TNCViewer is always open as long as your computer is turned on.

Before starting we heavily recommend reading through this guide twice.

1. Installation of the program on your pharmacy computer

a) From your desktop click on your “File Explorer”

b) Right click on “This PC” from the left side-bar and select PropertiesScreen Shot 2020-05-14 at 4.21.48 pm

c) In the pop-up window make a note of the System Type (either 32 or 64 bit)Screen Shot 2020-05-14 at 4.22.16 pm

d) Navigate to: tightvnc.com/download.php and download the Installer for your System Type (either 32 or 64 bit)Screen Shot 2020-05-14 at 4.22.28 pm

e) Open the installer once it has downloaded, open the application and follow the prompts, we recommend installing the “Typical” version of the software.Screen Shot 2020-05-14 at 4.22.35 pm

f) We also recommend creating a strong password to access the application as it will be exposed to the internet.Screen Shot 2020-05-14 at 4.25.54 pm

g) After the quick installation process, TightVNC will be running on your computer. You will now go to desktop and click start. You will open TightVNC Service - Control Interface to configure your server.

h) Once open we heavily recommend changing the port number to a random number. Most potential hackers will use port 5900 to search for computers potentially using TNCViewer. By changing the port number it will make it more difficult for cybersecurity attacks.

2. Forward Ports & Set Up Dynamic DNS (most complicated step)

In this step you will be forwarding ports.
Please pay attention to firewalls and you may need to confirm the connect you've set up is okay.

a) First get your IP Address for your address. You can find it here: https://whatismyipaddress.com/

b) Login to your router. Unfortunately, each router is different but they will look something as demonstrated below:

c) Add port forwarding rule. In this step you will click add, and then input your IP Address that you found in 2a, and insert the port number for what you created in 1h.

  • Enter the IP Address in your pharmacy followed by the port number (ie. 192.525.34.43::5900 ) in the “Remote Host” field and then press connect. When prompted, enter the password you created earlier.

  • Your pharmacy’s computer will now be accessible through your other computerScreen Shot 2020-05-14 at 4.26.31 pm

You've now successfully installed the software program on both of your computers and you can now access your pharmacy's computer remotely. If you're an existing customer, feel free to get in contact with your account manager if you need help setting this up.
